MY LIFE ITS LEGACY AND MESSAGE -NEVER-FAILING SADHANA

(Autobiography of Poojya Gurudev Pt. Sriram Sharma Acharya-Continued)
Man has his own limitations like a child. He potentially gets infinite strength from his Creator, the Omnipotent god. This, however, is conditional. Children do not know proper utility of objects and cannot take care of them. So they are given cheap toys, petty balloons, rattles, whistles, lemon juice balls, toffees etc. When a child grows up, understands his responsibilities he gets everything in inheritance without demanding anything. For this he is not required to beg, beseech pathetically or offer prayers. God and divinized human beings are keen to give a thousand times more than what we ask for, provided we have demonstrated our competence to utilize the divine gifts for noble and altruistic purposes and not for gratification of our perversely petty, egoistic desires and hungers.
It does not serve any purpose to give false assurances for the future. Proof has to be furnished how, whatever has been given so far, has been utilized. This is the basis of preparing the performance graph, which is examined before promotion is granted. I had to give convincing proof of my competence and sincerity during past several births. When everything was found to be in order, gifts and grace were showered on me.
Whatever Sugreev, Vibhishan, sudama, Arjun got and whatever they did was not the result of their own ego-centred efforts. The supreme power of God was working from behind the curtain. Canals get water from rivers. Distributaries, which supply water to the fields, get it from the canals. If there is any disorder or mishap anywhere there is bound to be a breakdown in the entire chain. Man can establish intimate relationship with God on some definite basis. There is no scope in it for anything like flattery. God does not play favourite with anyone. He is bound by the laws underlying the smooth working of his cosmos. He is impartial.
My personal human competence is almost insignificant. Whatever has been accomplished should purely be considered the result of Divine Grace, most of which is being showered not directly but through the medium of my Gurudev, although it hardly makes any difference.
How could this sublime achievement be possible? It was possibly by cultivation of competence of worthiness. It is also known as Jivan-sadhana. It is intimately related to upasana. Electric current flows through a metal wire and not through wood. A dry log of wood burns far more quickly and brightly than a wet one. A mother takes up a child into her lap when he is neat and clean. If he is stained with filth and dirt, she will first wash and clean him and then take him in her lap and feed him. For securing nearness, proximity to God, purity of character is a must. Several persons had remained soiled with carnal cravings in their previous lives but the moment they look to faith, devotion and sadhana their lives were transformed beyond recognition. Valmiki, Angulimal, bilva-mangal, Ajamil became saints in the true sense of the term, the moment they surrendered themselves to God, although their past lives were far from pious. We adopt the policy of Ram nam Japan Paraya mal apana (mechanically taking Ram’s name but coveting what belongs to others). We go on doing evil deeds and yet think that by worshipping God merely through outward symbolic acts, we will escape from retribution for our trespasses. Is this not a great delusion?
Before dyeing, a cloth has to be washed clean. Before sowing it is necessary to plough the land. To earn the grace of God one has to lead a pious life and become a sadhak. A sadhak alone can become a true devotee. In the absence of Jivan-sadhana the thoughts, character, diet and daily routine of a person will all be disorganized. Such a person will always remain restless on account of greed and desires and he will never be able to concentrate his mind. No purpose is served merely by performing karma-kand and symbolic worship. Worship is directly related to inner feelings. With sublimated feelings alone a person is able to assimilate righteousness in his attitudes, actions and nature.
When a respectable guest pays a visit or there is a function, the entire house is cleaned and whitewashed. If God is to be invited to occupy the chamber of the heart, it has to be first cleaned of all the dirt and dross, which fill it. For this one has to take recourse to self-growth. These facts were explained to me and I thoroughly assimilated them. After all, why do we lead a contemptible life? Greed, delusion and pride, these three are at its root. A man having these vices is bound to be dragged towards hell.
Actions are shaped by our subtle tendencies. Our physical body is governed by our mind. Mind alone and not the body should be considered responsible for all the misdeeds. Keeping this fact in view, I considered it appropriate to cut the roots of the poisonous tree of ego centered cravings and started Jivansadhana, considering mind as the basis.
Crimes are often committed due to economic compulsions and temptation. A pledge was, therefore, taken by me to lead a simple life of an average Indian. Whatever the income, it should be spent economically, according to local conditions, on the principle of simple living and high thinking. In principle, most of the people give it lip supports, but when it comes to practice they find it difficult to do so. It requires unshakable firmness and resolve, as members of the family have also to be prepared to follow it strictly, not only in principle but also in practice.
The greatest difficulty in this connection is about the attitudes prevalence in the society. People think that when everybody is indulging in riotous merry-making on his well-earned or ill-gotten wealth, why should we exercise control on ourselves? It is very difficult to convince members of the family in this matter. Still, if we practice what we preach and try to convince people by logic, facts and results and our resolve is firm, it is well nigh impossible that persons close to us will not be influenced. If economic malpractices are sought to be eradicated, it is necessary to educate the minds of the people on these lines. With this resolve remained firm in my convictions. Our family in Ghiya Mandi, Mathura, consisted of five members. Till we came to Hardwar in 1971, we managed our expenses within two hundred rupees per month. This could be possible by thrift and by maintaining a standard different from others, although my income was above average as I had inherited ancestral property. It was also spent in the education of children of other members of the family and nothing was accumulated to breed vices and addictions. Thus an important aspect of Jivan-sadhana could be practised.
A man has a propensity for adorning, embellishing and enriching one’s own family and he wants to leave behind huge wealth in succession at the time of his death. Children of the people who indulge in unrestrained gratification of desires are bound to become addicted to luxuries of all sorts and thus a chain of extravagance and squandering of money starts. Ill-gotten wealth is bound to be spent in licentious living. I learnt a lesson from the experience of the down-fall of others and did not allow such an outlook to enter in my home. Thus a cultured, refined family grew up.
People squander away a lot of money and time in bragging, pomp and show, ornamentation and fashion. There was no scope in my life for such ego-inflating and self-glorifying trivialities, as an atmosphere of Brahman-like politeness and simplicity was maintained throughout my personal and family life. We had formed the habit of doing all domestic chores without own hands. For years Mataji grinded flour at home and prepared meals herself for the family and guests. A domestic servant had to be engaged only when, on account of extraordinary expansion of mission’s work, it became difficult for her to spare time for household work.
It is a false notion, born out of a perverted sense of values, that those living in pomp and show are regarded ‘great’ while those living in simplicity are considered to be unlucky or backward. It did not ever apply in my case. It would have been a different matter if poverty had become our lot on account of sloth or incompetence. But in our case it was a voluntarily and gladly adopted way of life in adherence to high and noble ethical principles. None of my relatives, friends etc. who came in my contact regarded it as poverty but as an example of setting Brahman traditions. There are people who by giving up chillies or putting on wooden sandals make loud proclamations of their simplicity and righteousness. But spiritual life is truly lived by an all-inclusive self-restraint and discipline in which one has to consciously endeavour every moment to transform his entire way of life into that of a true Brahman. This entails a gradual and long sadhana. In this respect, I rigorously trained myself and also all those who were linked with me.
Life is affected by accumulated evil tendencies, and habits. Passion, anger, greed, delusion, pride and jealousy, all tried to deflect me from the righteous path, but they were chased away before they could establish a foothold in my psyche. They succeed only when a person is caught unaware or lowers his guard. I kept a constant watch on my attitudes (guna), actions (karma) and nature (svabhav) with a view to ensuring that righteousness of a sadhak has been incorporated in them. It is a matter of satisfaction that I can humbly claim to have emerged virtuous.
At birth, everybody is crude and unpolished. Every soul brings with it, from previous lives, a greater or lesser load of evil tendencies and impressions. They cannot be eradicated all at once. Grace of the Guru or puja-path (rituals) also does not serve this purpose. The only way is to struggle hard against the evil tendencies. A parallel army of noble thoughts, duly trained, should be kept in readiness to fight it out as soon as an evil thought creeps in. Evil thoughts and tendencies cannot exist for long if they are not allowed to consolidate their position in our minds. Their strength is limited. They mainly depend on habits and conventions, while good thoughts have always the strong support of logic, facts, proof, wisdom, etc. The authors of ancient scriptures have rightly pointed out that ultimately truth alone prevails. In other words, it is the divine virtues and noble tendencies that form part of our real higher nature; evil tendencies are only aberrations and shadows without substance. When monkeys and bears can be trained to display amazing feats, there is no reason why a raw and crude human mind could not be refined and made righteous through concentrated sadhana.

Vrat and Upvas-Fasting

There are such type of advantages of vrat or upvas -
         1.         To get rid of evil traits and cultivation of divinity in human being.
         2.         Improvement in the will power.
         3.         Improvement in the strength at the level of physical, mental and soul (Atam Bal)
         4.         Rejuvenation of digestive system.
         5.         Practice to control senses.
         6.         To cultivate the pain taking capability and tolerance power.
         7.         Prevention from diseases by purity of blood.
         8.         To cultivate a habit to control the impulses of mind and heart by austere way of life.
         9.         To achieve the divine grace.
       10.       Saving of grain in society.

The path of determination and discrimination.
There are two importance sentences/statements related with this path in Sanskrit.

                                 ‘‘व्रतेन दीक्षामाप्नोति, दीक्ष्याप्नोति  क्षिणाम्।
                                    क्षिणा श्रद्धा माप्नोति , श्रद्धया सत्य माप्यते।।’’

It can be described in four steps-
Ist step: (Vrat cultivates the land for Deeksha)
It is the preparation of spiritual upliftment. When we exercise our power of determination and discrimination, we get divine guidance, which would cut short the worldly desires. When the disciple determines to follow the path, the master appears. The master easily perceives how well the student is prepared. If he finds that the student is not yet ready, he will gradually prepare him for the higher teachings. And when the wick and oil are properly prepared, the master lights the lamp. The resulting light is divine. We should not be worried more about who will guide us. The important question is: Am I prepared to be guided. Jesus had only 12 close disciples. He helped many but he imported the secret wisdom to only those who were prepared.
You do need one who can guide and help you. You need an external Guru as a means to attain the Guru within you. You shall never meet a bad Guru it you are a good student. But the reverse is also true. If you are a bad student, you won’t meet a good Guru. Why should a good Guru assume responsibility of a bad student? Nobody collects garbage. If you are in search of a Guru, search within first. Do not grumble that you don't have a teacher. Ask whether you are a deserve one. Are you capable of attracting a teacher?
IInd step: To pay the debt of Deeksha in the form of Dakshina.
Having less worldly desires promotes the human being to a divine path of austerity. This path of austerity strengthens us with divine powers, divine virtues and spiritual wisdom and with the capacity and capability of paying the tribute to our spiritual guide in the form of human welfare.
There are various modes of human welfare i.e. to help the suffering humanity. If we want to eradicate the problems of the society by root we can do this by rejuvenating the Sanatan Dharam, by encouraging the people for spiritual upliftment, by showing the path of divine enlightment, by serving the needy persons, by enforcing a discipline in the society to adopt the Universal Laws.
IIIrd Step: Dakshina incultates the lesson of shraddha:
There are two ways of life- one is austere way of life also known as Shreya in Upanishad or yoga or tap in yogshastra i.e. the path of emancipation or Moksha; the record is luxurious life also known as Preya in Upanishad or Bhog i.e. the path of transmigration. When we tread the first path of austerity, divinity, sooner we get a state of bliss by subsiding all our worldly pains and sufferings. We get vibrant life with a feeling of great satisfaction. Sooner we feel that the path we have chosen is really a source of all pleasures. Our faith for this path is increased day by day.
Unflinching faith is termed as Shraddha.
IVth step: Shraddha manifests the truth.
Firm belief and unflinching faith leads into onepointedness, one aim, i.e. to reach the acme of the spiritual enlightenment  By this you will achieve the ultimate truth, the ultimate reality as all pervasive throughout the world i.e. God or cosmic consciousness.
Philosophical aspect and practical aspect
There are two aspects-philosophical aspect and practical aspect which is related with actual implementation. As yet we have talked about the first aspect. Now let us talk about the second aspect i.e. the practical aspect. In practical aspect we discuss it as science of fasting. It fulfils the following objectives.
         1.         To get rid of bad habits by increasing the will power.
         2.         To give relief to stomach through reduced food.
         3.         To develop the habit of controlling senses through tasteless food.
         4.         Eradication of physical and mental diseases through purification of blood.
         5.         Purification of subconscious mind through austerity.
A fast starts with a good determination. In the beginning simple vows should be taken. For example if we determine for tasteless food we should opt only one either sugar or salt in the intake of the whole day. If we have a strong will power than we can leave out the both otherwise more step-by-step. If we make tough resolution and unable to control our mind to get it done, it may reduce our will power. Repeated failures may lead to a decrease/determination in self a confidence (lack of self confidence). Similarly repeated success leads to an improvement in willpower and confidence. Therefore whatever you determine, get stuck to it just like a rock.
There are several rules related with the science of fasting as given below:-
1.    In fast, tea should not be taken at all. If due to any reason, it can not be avoided completely, then it should be taken once or twice, that too only be prepared at home. The more accurate way of preparing it is boil the tea leaves first with water; only at one boil when the color of water starts changing, put milk, sugar, water etc. in it without heating it further. As much as tea leaves are boiled, toxic elements would be extracted in that quantity. The tea prepared in market is very harmful as it is treated by heat several times. Repeated heat treatment of tea leave produces toxic elements and makes it harmful.
2.   In fast any type of tobacco, Pan-masala etc. should not be taken at all.
3.     In fast, any type of fried food like PranthaPakodi etc. or heavy food which cannot be easily digested like KheerHalva, sweets etc. should not be taken at all.
4.      In fast hard work should be avoided (of both types physical or mental)
5.      In fast frequent eating should be avoided. If it is not possible to remain without food, light food with half of capacity can be taken at one time.
6.       In fast liquor, egg, meat etc. must be strictly avoided.
7.       In fast coffee, cold drinks etc. should also not be taken.
8.       In fast watching any type of obscene films or reading obscene novel and sexual intercourse must be avoided.
9.       In fast bread, biscuit, chocolate, toffee, samosanamkeen or things made in market- should not be taken.
10.    In fast abusing and quarreling should be avoided.
11.    In fast use of chilly and spicy items is harmful.
12.     In fast taking very cold and very hot items is harmful.
13.     In fast ghee should not be taken and chapatti should be taken without applying ghee on it.
14.      In fast finding out faults in others, i.e. backbiting should not be done.
15.      In fast one should determine to leave one bad habit and to adopt one good habit.
The following things are useful in fast:-
         1.         In fast, water (Simple) or lemon juice is good.
         2.         In fast, taking rest as much as possible is beneficial.
         3.         In fast study and self-analysis should be done.
         4.         In fast worship, recitation of mantra (Jap) meditation and contemplation are useful. Anything should not be tiring or in high volume.
         5.         In fast it is beneficial to forgo one thing salt or sugar or both.
         6.         In fast light and easily digestible food with half stomach should be taken.
         7.         If lemon juice does not suit, eight or ten dry grapes (Munacca) should be dipped into 250 gm. water. After passing of five or six hour water and munacca  should be taken (swollen). Water of munacca is very beneficial in fast.
         8.         It is beneficial to take juice of raw spinach (Palak) in less amount. You should ensure that it is not treated by pesticides otherwise it would be harmful. If there is a doubt the spinach should be boiled before taking it.
         9.         In fast it is good to take fruits or fruit juice.
       10.       It is beneficiary to live in seclusion.
Types of Fast
General Fast:
This fast is ordinary and simple. In this fast, there is not any special difficulty or precaution. In this kind of fast one has to abstain oneself from any kind of intake except plain water upto 12 O’clock at noon. After 12 O’clock one has to take light and easily digestible food upto half of stomach capacity. Only one time meal is recommended. It can be at noon or in evening. If meal is taken at noon, in evening only milk  and fruits should be taken. If meal is taken at evening, at noon only milk and fruits should be taken. Food should be very simple, half cooked and boiled. No salt is recommended, if not possible use only light special salt (Saindha Namak). No red chilli and hot spices are recommended. If one has to use, only use cuminseed, turmeric and coriander seed in less amount.
Out of milk, only cow milk without sugar is best. Buffalow milk is heavier and it taken without sugar may cause gastric problems (पेट सम्बन्धी समस्याएँ ) . Therefore try to avoid buffalow milk in fast. The cow milk even without sugar is also digestive. Seasonal fruits are better to take in fast. In winter, two or three dates, or one or half spoon honey can be used with milk. Natural sugar in less quantity is beneficial but artificial sugar is harmful.
Tasteless Fast
In this type of fast salt or sugar or both should be avoided. Food at both time or one time can be taken according to our convenience.
Fruit Based Fast
In this type of fast only fruit or milk is taken twice or once but food is be not taken. If one use potato, only boiled should be used. Don't use fried potato. Kuttu is also lighter than grains, it may be taken but in less quantity and unfried. Sometimes harmful items are mixed in kuttu flour, which make the fast fruitless.
Water Based Fast
This fast is kept only on water for twenty four to thirty six hours. It is a bit difficult now a days. Such type of fast is not recommended for the patients of low blood pressure and diabetes. If at the time of fast one feels weakness to a great extent or feels uncontrolled heart beats, it should not be continued. Though this is powerful for physical and mental purification, but it should be followed/observed carefully. It also demands a careful end. At the end lemon juice, orange juice or citrus juice (Mausmi) should be taken. Several times when we complete our fast we may have a good appetite. The amount of intake should be controlled to a lower end, otherwise it may be harmful.
Advantages of Fasting
         1.         Improvement in digestion through fast.
         2.         Purification of blood and Protection from diseases.
         3.         Mental purification through fast.
Improvement in Digestion
If a machine is used beyond its capacity, it starts getting weak.  The same principle is applicable to digestive system. In materialistic society there is a leaving towards eating and drinking various items for taste. Most of the persons have a bad habit of taking heavy dinner. At night when most of the parts of the body are in the rest state, the stomach remains busy whole night with the heavy load of dinner. The work at night is not yet completed and with the down new work is given to it in the form of bed tea and heavy breakfast. Breakfast consists of Prantha of potatoes, butter etc. The poor stomach is getting swollen due to anger, but who bothers for its grievances. The human being is engaged in taking sometime cold drinks, sometimes samosa, sometimes tea and sometimes this sometimes that and so on. Due to overload the efficiency of the digestive system gets deteriorated day by day. Therefore the digestion work which requires normally 14 to 18 hours row takes 24 to 30 hours. This is the beginning of the constipation. If the food processing is done in the intestine more than normal time, the water part is observed, getting the remaining part hard. Another problem is related with the rotting. If food is kept outside in summer, it would remain fresh upto 8 to 10 hours. It is the maximum limit of its freshness. Similarly, there is a time limit for digestion. If it takes more time, rotting starts. Various gases and acids are formed. It may lead to severe gastric problems. Small intestine may absolve rotten juice, acids etc. which leads to blood impurity. It is the root cause of various diseases.
By observing fast stomach gets rest. After refreshing, stomach starts its work with more capability and processing of food from mouth to rectum takes only 14 to 18 hour i.e. normal time. Fast provides rest to stomach and hence it strengthens the digestive system. It is the basic philosophy of the fast related with digestive system.
PROTECTION FROM DISEASES BY PURIFICATION OF BLOOD
It is the impurity of blood which attracts the germs of the various diseases. It is the fact that in dirty places germs are more active, similarly if the blood is dirty, the gathering of dirty elements imparts of body that is the root cause of the various diseases.
For example gathering of it on joints leads to arthritics etc., if it gathers at brain, migraine may appear and on gathering of it at respiratory systems leads to bronchitis, cough and cold. If it accumulates at kidney it may convert into the serious problem of stone.
Most of the time our life force is used for digestion of food. If it could be saved from that, then automatically it is utilized for the purification of blood. The same procedure is adopted in fast. Nothing is to be taken upto 12 O’clock.
Body gets purity by eliminating the dirty substances. This routine can be followed daily. Pure blood is very powerful and has the capacity to kill the various types of germs. Some people call the pure blood as poisonous blood, because as any germ enters in it, it immediately becomes dead. Thus by blood purification the possibility of attack of disease becomes poor.
Mental Purification By Fast
It is said, “What’s you eat gets that mind”. On the day of fast one has to take reduced food without or minimum sugar and salt. As much heavy the stomach remains, the flow of energy would become so towards the lower energy centers This downward energy may create heavyness and may generate carnal desires. If stomach remains light the flow of energy would become towards the upper level energy centers Consequently one feels easier and happier. This improves mental peace, efficiency and strength. Therefore a student should eat less. Now a days every one should eat less as physical work is hardly done.
DIFFICULTIES IN FAST
            The following types of difficulties are seen in fast:
1.      Complaint of constipation
2.      Complaint of headache, giddiness etc.
3.      Feeling weakness
4.      Precautions in long duration fast
1.      In most of the cases the digestive system becomes habitual to be active through stimulant. For example if a horse is made habitual to move by slap, he would not move without it. Similarly if a child is taught by slapping, he would not learn anything without it. In the same way salt, sugar and spices its are used as stimulant to digestive system. One being habitual if we take less or do not take such stimulants, the digestive system becomes less active, which results as constipation. To resolve this problem either Isbgol Bhusi can be used or one teaspoonful churn of Trifla can be used with lukewarm water or milk at night before sleeping. Otherwise use Anima for clearing of stomach on the next day of fast.
Many times a person gets habitual to some such type of stimulants as bed tea etc., without which he cannot clear his stomach. Such person should use lukewarm water in place of bed tea. After drinking water he may do light exercise or light yogasans (as Tadasans etc. which produce pressure of toilet, may be seen from any book).
2.      Purification of blood i.e. to clean our physical system is not an easy task. The person having impure blood normally feels more difficulty in observing fast. Many persons requires tea or anything to eat immediately after taking bath. Otherwise they feel headache or giddiness or heaviness. Why is it so? Actually such persons have not only impure body but their body gets also weak. In he morning after toilet immediately cleansing process is start by vital force which is met so easy, but also painful. In such condition lemon water, Munacca water is somewhat beneficial which helps in cleansing the body as well as gives strength to it.
If impurity is deposited in head, then headache starts, if deposited in joints, joint pain starts. A bad smell also comes out from the mouth on the day of the fast. Normally heavy physical or mental work should be avoided during fast so that the life force which is saved from the digestive work should not be consumed in any heavy work. Thus the saved energy could be used only in the cleansing process. The person where body is more impure should not observe hard fast (as fast on water or fruit) otherwise it may be untolerable. In such ease one has to reduce intake slowly at that level which could be tolerable to him.
3.      The persons whose body is already very weak and suffering from uncontrolled heart beats, might have complaints of diabetes or low blood pressure must be careful in observing fast. Eating and drinking should not be left spontaneously and completely otherwise sometimes physical system may reach at the mark of danger.
4.      It is said in Ayurveda that “Langhanm Param Auashdam” ( लंघनम परम औषधं ) i.e. fast is the most important medicine Langhanm are those fast which are followed from the health point of view. These duration is normally long as 5, 10, 15 days etc. About two or three decade ago it was easy to remain without food for 10 to 15 days or to take only on lemon juice. People would normally adopt it. But now a days when physical system gets weakened by various diseases as nonrhythmic heart beats, depression, Insomnia, diabetes, asthma etc. long duration fast must be followed after deliberation and with proper guidance. It is normally safe to be on water upto 24 or 36 hours and then break it by lemon water or orange juice but the fast of more long duration should be followed very cautiously and according to physical and mental state. Special type of 40 days fast known as ‘Kalp’ were also in vogue but is difficult to follow now a days as it is not safe to use more fruits. Because to ripe fruits by injection or by another chemicals is very common now a days. It may be dangerous to take more such type of fruits.
THE PRINCIPLE OF GIVING IN FAST
It is inevitable for everyone to donate a certain percentage of one’s honestly earned income, or to devote one part of time for human welfare activities. One percent of monthly income must be donated in each fast. Without it the effort of the fast goes in vain. If wife wants to follow this worm and husband is not agree then she should donate whatever is possible for humanity. There should be a tradition to have small boxes or small bags known as Gyan Ghat or Dharm Ghat. Each member of family must have a habit of donation and it can be collected in these Gullaks.
CONCLUSION
The conclusion is that fast tradition is the most valuable treasure of this nation and it is the most important part of Santan Dharm. Its philosophy and science should be well understood and adopted in life after deliberation. It is our firm faith that if a person acquires proper knowledge of philosophy and science of vrat and upvas and gets it implemented in life he would definitely find a 90% relief in his physical and mental sufferings.
He will be happier and peaceful and he will start progressing both physically and spiritually.

Sanatan Dharam and Universal Laws

Dear friends, our country Indian has always been renowned all over the world as a nation having the heritage of spiritualism, religious austerity and ascetic practices. Parakram (valiant deed), Purusharatha (consistent hard work) and Paramartha (sacrifice for humanity and divinity) were the pearls of its great culture but with the change of time, it has been trapped in the vicious circle/whirlpool of materialism (Bhogvad), fatalism (Bhagyavad) and cowardness (Bhirutha).
At this time also the people must have a knowledge of the principles of Sanatan Dharm. The life based on Sanatan Dharm is the only solution of all the propels of the common man. Only the proper knowledge of Sanatan Dharm or Universal law can help the people to live happy and peaceful life.
Time to time the pure and noble religion has been degenerated into dead forms with unmeaning sites and ceremonies. The state of society was very bad at the time of Buddha. In order that flesh eating might have the sanction in religion, animal were slaughtered and sacrificed in Yajnas. Buddha had a heart as wide as sky or the ocean. His tender and loving heart could not bear the shedding of the blood of so many innocents in the sacred name of religion.
He inspired the people to gain spiritual wisdom that’s why he has been popular by the name of Mahatma Buddha. He emphatically assurted that religion is the name of growing wisdom in the society instead of following useless and meaning less traditions. According to him.
“Each and every belief and tradition must be checked in the light of higher wisdom.” (Buddham sarnam Gachhami).
“Only right beliefs and traditions should be accepted a adopted” (Dhamman Sarnam Gachami)
“The whole society should be illuminated by the right thoughts”. (Sangham srnam Gachami)
To understand the basis of dharama, Buddha advised the eight fold path as following:
Right belief or right understanding or right views;
Right aspiration;
Right speech;
Right conduct or right action;
Right living or right means of livelihood;
Right exertion;
Right mindfulness or attentiveness; and
Right concentration or meditation.
Thus Buddha came to the world to show the path of righteousness, to destroy the path of error and to break down sorrow. The noble eightfold path destroys lust, anger, greed, malice and other evils, and purifies the heart. Then downs Bodhi or Enlightenment, which bestows perfect everlasting peace, eternal bliss and immortality. It ends suffering of all kinds and leads to the attainment of Nirvana or realization.
 The word ‘Nirvana’ literally means ‘going out’. It signifies a spiritual experience full of peace and bliss, which is characterized by the ‘going out’ from the heart of the three fires of lust, ill will and dullness. Buddha insisted upon the perfect law of cause and effect. He said to the people that they lived in a world in which causes always produce their natural and necessary effects  and that the consequences of their conduct would, therefore, follow them where ever they went. He said that virtue has its own reward and vice its own punishment and that whatever is done inevitably reacts on the character and through the character affects for weal or woe the destiny of the soul.
Note that Buddhism is not against God. Buddha did not deny God. He only said: “Do not bother about questions like “Is there God?”, “Do I exist?”, “Is the world  real or not?’ Do not waste your time and energy in useless discussions. Become a practically religious man. Purify your heart. Control the mind. Lead a virtuous life. You will attain Nirvana or realization or eternal bliss”.
To accuse Buddha as a non-believer in God is simply foolish. Buddha found no use in metaphysical fighting. He declined to enter into metaphysics. Is there God or no God? Is life eternal or non-eternal? These questions were set aside as not requiring an answer for the attainment of Nirvana. The immediate great problem for Buddha was suffering and removal of suffering. He asked his followers not to bother about transcendental questions. He set aside all those things which did not help towards the attainment of the goal. He thought it wise to give his followers away, and not a creed. He thought that inquiry about the nature of the ultimate reality was an unnecessary burden on the path of truth and spiritual attainment. The vital and fundamental thing is not to discuss about the ultimate, but to tread the path which takes man out of the world of pain and suffering into supreme home of eternal bliss and immortality.
The nature of the ultimate truth is beyond the reach of mind and speech. If Buddha refused to define the nature of the Absolute, or if he contended himself with negative definitions, it is only to show that the Absolute r the ultimate is above all definitions.
The present day world needs very badly the teachings of Lord Buddha.
Not only the Sanatan Dharm, but also all the religion all our the world must be based on logic. Most of the follows of various religions are involved in useless and unnecessary traditions and activities.
If we deeply study the various religious, the conclusion is that fundamental principles of all religions are same and these are based on the Universal laws i.e. the laws by which the whole universe would be peaceful, prosperous, beautiful and will managed.

Take One Step At A Time Towards Holistic Living

Walking through a forest, a man chanced to meet four beautiful women. Greeting them, he introduced himself. The tall and slim woman said: “My name is buddhi (intellect), I live in man’s head”. The woman with kohllined eyes said: “I am Lajja, I live in the eyes of man as modesty and present myself as decorum in behaviour”. The third lady had a well-toned body. “I am Himmat”, she said. “I live in man’s  heart. I give him the courage to live”. The fourth lady had rosy cheeks and radiated freshness. “My name is Tandurusti (health). I live in man’s stomach”, she said.
As the traveler went ahead, his thoughts went back to the four women he had met. At the end of the forest, he met four young men. “I am Krodh (anger)”, said the first man who was handsome but for his brows, which were always knitted. “Where do you live”, the traveler asked. “I live in man’s head”, said Krodh. The traveler said this was not possible. He had just met Buddhi and she lived in the head. Krodh said “Till I enter, Buddhi remains. Once I enter, she runs away”. Krodh had strong muscles and a forceful personality. The second man was Laalach (greed). “I live in people’s eyes”, he said. Once again the traveler interjected to say “Only Lajja lives there”. Just place a bag of gold coins and see how Lajja runs away from people’s eyes. Or offer a position of power. Desire does not believe in modesty, shame or decorum. It is an expression of greed”.
Who would the third man be? “I am Bhay (fear)”, the sickly-looking man was saying. “I live in people’s hearts”. “Is it not the residence of Himmat?” The traveler asked. “When people do not obey their conscience, they are always afraid. They do wrong and so are full of fear of being caught. That is why Himmat wanders homeless while I reside comfortably in people’s hearts. Sometimes when I dominate, people say they have a heart attack and go to the doctor. They give me even more space when and if they come back”.
“My name is Rog (disease)”,  said the fourth man. He looked healthy, “I live in people’s stomachs. They are forever downing intoxicants that goes into their stomach, feeding me. I know you will wonder where Tandurusti went. She does not stand a chance. Everybody wants her but it is me they feed when they drink, smoke and partake of other such substances”.
A healthy and happy life seems to be within reach. But so are problems. If we invite problems, is it fair to blame it all on fate? Can we make small resolves that will make some space for Buddhi, Lajja, Himmat and Tandurusti within us? Small resolves like: “Today. I will limit my possessions. I will not give in to temptations that lead me to ill health”. Small vows or anuvrats are firm stepping stones to a happier and healthier life.
All it takes to be able to live a holistic life is to resist temptation, taking one step at a time. Health, happiness and peace will be within reach.

When Protector turns predator

In ancient days astrologers, priests and pandits had been the main divine force of the society which would compel the common man to tread the path of divinity. Now a days, many of these protectors turned predators. Due to the incompetency and selfish motives they are misguiding the people. Due to that reason the interest of person for Sanatan Dharam has reached at dead state. Those who have a little interest are dung only to superstitious beliefs. The scenario can be understood by the following example.
“A child had expired. The brave guardians took his body to a cremation ground near a river bank. It was raining. A discussion was going on about performing his last rites.
While they were discussing among themselves, the creatures present there interfered in it and gave their unsought suggestion regarding the issue.
The jackal said, “It is better to bury the body in the ground”. The tortoise said, “There is nothing better than Ganga waters for the liberation of the soul. Why don’t you let the body flow in the water?” The vulture said, “It is better to leave the body in the open. Why to leave the body of a dear one to decompose and rot in water or mud.
The guardians took no time to understand that though the statements looked like wise suggestions; they were all full of selfish and mean motives. They thanked all the advisers and bid farewell to them. As soon as the sky was clear they performed the cremation sites by consigning the body to tire.”
At this time also the people must have knowledge of the principles of Sanatan Dharm. The life based on Sanatan Dharm is the only solution of all the proples of the common man. Only the proper knowledge of Sanatan Dharm or Universal law can help the people to live happy and peaceful life.
Time to time the pure and noble religion has been degenerated into dead forms with unmeaning sites and ceremonies. The state of society was very bad at the time of Budha. In order that flesh eating might have sanction in religion, animal were slaughtered and sacrificed in Yajuas. Budha had a heart as wide as sky or the ocean.
Right belief or right understanding or right views;
Right aspiration;
Right speech;
Right conduct or right action;
Right living or right means of livelihood;
Right exertion;

He only said: “Do not bother about questions like “Is there God?”, “Do I exist?”, “Is the world  real or not?’ Do not waste your time and energy in useless discussions.
